Engine Gateway YDEG-04
The Engine Gateway is compatible with J1939 engines (Caterpillar, Cummins, John Deere, MAN, Yanmar, etc.), BRP Rotax, Mercury SmartCraft, and most Volvo Penta engines manufactured since 2003, and even with some engines manufactured before 2000.
Known compatible engines:
- BRP Rotax engines manufactured since 2005
- Caterpillar engines including C9, C18, C30, 3126B, and 3196. Additional models may be compatible, please get in touch with your engine model, production year, and serial number if available.
- Cummins 480CE and QSC engines. Please get in touch with engine model, production year, and serial number if available.
- J1939 equipped John Deere engines including 6068. Often best indicated by the presence of a Murphy PowerView 101 display
- MAN engines when equipped with MMDS-CLC and MMDS-LC (CAN version) displays.
- Mercury SmartCraft equipped engines utilizing SmartCraft CAN-P
- Most Volvo Penta engines manufactured since 2003 including:
- with all versions of EVC-B, EVC-C, EVC-D, EVC-E (most modern engines manufactured since 2006);
- D1 and D2 series with MDI (Mechanical Diesel Interface), for example D2-40F;
- EDC III and EDC IV diesel engines (EMS 2.0, EMS 2.2);
- with EVC-A MC and EVC-A EC
- EFI engines with MEFI4B ECU or later (gasoline, 2004-2005), with or without an EVC system installed;
- all EGC engines (gasoline, 2005 and Later), with or without an EVC system installed.
- Yanmar common rail engines with J1939 support including 3JH40, 4JH45, 4JH57, 4JH80, 4JH110 and 3JH40, 4LV150, 4LV170, 4LV195, 4LV230, 4LV250
Known incompatible engines:
- All mechanically controlled / analog engines
- Gasoline electronically controlled engines equipped with MEFI1, 2, 3, or 4 ECUs. MEFI 4B and later ECUs are compatible
- Mercury SmartCraft engines with ECM555/PCM555 ECUs
- Outboard engines from Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha
- Yanmar mechanically controlled engines including 3JH3, 4JH4, 4JH5, and all engines that end in E or TE
On most boats with recent Volvo Penta engines, all that you need is to plug the device into an empty socket of the NMEA 2000 network backbone and connect the engine cable to a Multilink hub or, using the built-in Y-connector on the engine cable of Gateway, to connect it in series with any of the EVC tachometers.
Please note: Yanmar compatibility is limited to newer, common rail 3JH and 4JH engines. Older engines with models that end in E, HE, and TE are not compatible. Compatible common-rail Yanmar engines include:
- 3JH40
- 4JH45
- 4JH57
- 4JH80
- 4JH110
For some engines an adaptor cable is required, and we offer different adaptor cables at very reasonable prices.
Factory settings are suitable for most of vessels with one or two engines. The YDEG-04 supports up to four networked engines per gateway. If the engines are not linked or networked, one gateway is required per engine.
The Gateway is compatible with virtually all equipment supporting NMEA 2000 and is certified by National Marine Electronics Association. Raymarine SeaTalk NG, Simrad SimNet, and Furuno CAN networks are branded versions of NMEA 2000 and differ only by connector type. Garmin uses the NMEA 2000 Micro connector in its devices, which is compatible with the DeviceNet Micro connector.
The Gateway is supplied with a connector compatible with SeaTalk NG or a connector compatible with NMEA 2000 Micro Male. For other networks, an adaptor cable may be required.
